Turkish centrality in the Mediterranean historical debates, regional influence geopolitical implications
In the year of the 100th anniversary of the Republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in office for over 20 years, won the last elections, reinforcing his path of building the "Century of Türkiye".
This research work aims to investigate Turkish interests throughout the historical-political evolution of its relations with the EU and the affirmation of its strategy in the Middle East, in the seek of domestic consensus and reinforcement of political role.
Also, it’ll investigate the Italy-Türkiye bilateral agreements on key sectors such as the energy and industrial one, the maintenance of strategic position in Libya and the management of migration flows in the so-called “Calabrian route”, further exploring the dynamics behind the tragedy off the coasts of Cutro last February.
