L’Accordo India- Ue
On 27 January, the European Union and India concluded negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the most ambitious deal ever reached by both parties. The agreement provides for the elimination or reduction of tariffs on 96.6% of the value of EU exports to India and could potentially double EU exports by 2032.
However, the agreement goes beyond trade. The dialogue between Brussels and New Delhi also extends to cooperation in security, defence, advanced technologies, and migration management, outlining a comprehensive strengthening of the partnership in an increasingly competitive geopolitical context.
What are the main provisions of the agreement? What steps remain necessary for its implementation? And what geostrategic implications could it have for Europe, for India, and for the international order?
These issues were discussed during the webinar held on 23 February 2026, which analysed the prospects, opportunities, and challenges of an agreement set to significantly shape EU–India relations in the coming years. Speakers included Paola Pampaloni, Director/Deputy Managing Director of the Asia and Pacific Department at the European External Action Service (EEAS), who delivered the keynote address; Tiziano Marino, Associate of the CeSPI India Observatory; and Francesco Sciaudone, Managing Partner at GA-Alliance | Global Legal & Tax Advisor, as discussant. The discussion was moderated by Sergio Lugaresi, Coordinator of the CeSPI India Observatory.
