The study, conducted by CeSPI as part of the Ten4All project, analyses the role of educational incentives in combating early school leaving and, indirectly, early migration among children in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Through a review of international literature and the analysis of relevant case studies, the research examines the most effective economic, social and educational incentive mechanisms in supporting school retention in vulnerable contexts. The results highlight how incentives can strengthen family resilience, improve access to and continuity of education, and reduce migratory pressures when integrated into broader poverty reduction strategies. The study proposes courses of action that can be adapted to the local context, enhancing the role of communities, the diaspora, and the link between education and future opportunities.
