The 6th Summit of the European Political Community (EPC) was held in Tirana, bringing together leaders from 47 countries, including the 6 Western Balkans nations.
The main topics discussed at the summit were: Europe's security and democratic resilience; Competitiveness and economic security; Mobility and youth empowerment.
The EU was represented by European Council President António Costa, who co-chaired the meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, as well as by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
In his opening remarks, Costa reaffirmed that the EU "will remain a reliable partner in European integration, economic and energy cooperation, security and defense, and protecting our climate," emphasizing that "Europe must also invest more in its own defense."
In his speech, Rama called for a European vision that extends beyond military security, while von der Leyen reminded that “The European Political Community is united in preserving peace on our continent.”
Regarding Albania, Kallas assessed that Albania “is making good progress in the European integration process,” underscoring that “now is the political moment for enlargement, which is necessary not only for the Western Balkans but also for the EU."
The next meeting of the European Political Community will take place in Denmark in the autumn of 2025.
