Syrians returning to their homeland from Türkiye

Nearly half a million Syrian refugees have returned from Türkiye since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8th. But not all Syrians have gone back. This paper explores why a significant number of Syrians have returned, and why others are delaying their homecoming or are not returning at all. This is an in-depth analysis of the journey of Syrian nationals back to their home country from Türkiye following the collapse of the regime of Bashar al-Assad on December 8th 2024. It includes dozens of eyewitness accounts and the author's firsthand observations from both Syria and Türkiye, and from a variety of locations, men and women, and different age groups, to provide a comprehensive insight into the situation in both countries.
