The Western Balkans into NATO: security perspectives

The Western Balkans have been a strategically important theater for the Atlantic Alliance for decades. In an international context characterized by increasing competition and the emergence of hybrid threats, the relationship between the countries of the region and NATO is even more significant.

Russian Federation and People’s Republic of China are extremely active in the area, with initiatives that have an impact not only on the economic dimension, but also on security and political stability.

In this context, the Alliance's adaptive posture and the defense and security sector reforms of the countries of the region will be decisive in shaping the prospects for the integration of the Western Balkans into NATO.
