29 October 2022

The Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and North Macedonia took part in the opening ceremony of the railway linking the two countries, which took place on 29 October in Kumanovo, North Macedonia.

The project,  whose realization agreement dates back to 1991, is part of the Pan-European Corridor VIII, designed to facilitate trade and movement of people between Western and Eastern Europe, connecting the ports of Italy, Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria. The ceremony has seen the inauguration of the line "Eastern End", that it previews the construction of 89 km of railroads inside of the Macedonia of the North.

The prime ministers assured that the railway will be completed by 2030, leading to an increase in the annual volume of goods traded by 20%, as well as the provision of modern means of transport for about 350,000 people, significantly reducing the environmental impact of travel.
