News: Kosovo could lose about €500 million due to EU sanctions

4 July 2023

The Alliance of Kosovar Businesses has warned that Kosovo could lose about €500 million in EU funds by the end of the year, because of the sanctions adopted by the European Union.

In June 27, the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell warned Kosovo about the possibility of political and financial countermeasures, in the event that Kosovo had not made progress in the de-escalation of the situation in Serb municipalities. Borrell also insisted that new elections should be held in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo, but on the condition that Kosovo Serbs participate in the elections.

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti  replied highlighting that Kosovo is “the EU’s most sincere and stable partner in the region and adheres to European values, democratic principles and long-term interests”.
