News: Elections in Republika Srpska: Victory for Siniša Karan (SNSD)

23 November 2025

The early elections called after the removal of Milorad Dodik from the presidency of Republika Srpska resulted in the victory of Siniša Karan.
Karan, a member of the ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) and widely regarded as Dodik’s political successor, won 50.9% of the vote, defeating opposition candidate Branko Blanuša, who received around 47.8%.

The election took place amid low voter turnout — just above 35–37% — reflecting widespread disinterest and electoral mistrust.
Karan, who had previously served as Minister for Scientific and Technological Development of Republika Srpska, pledged to continue Dodik’s policies, stating that his election represents a strengthening of Republika Srpska’s autonomy.
