Moving towards an inclusive green agenda in the Western Balkans

The Policy Brief by Erblin Berischa analyzes the transition of the Western Balkans (WB) towards a carbon-free economy, highlighting the role of the EU's Green Agenda, introduced in 2020 as part of the Green Deal. Although the WB are not EU members, this framework helps them align with European environmental standards. Progress has been made in renewable energy, climate strategies, and legislation, but challenges remain, such as coal dependency, waste management, pollution, and energy access. An inclusive, multi-level approach is recommended to ensure transparency, fairness, and to address transition fatigue.
