News: Montenegro, EU announces the start of drafting an accession treaty

EU member states have decided to begin drafting an accession treaty with Montenegro, considered a key step toward joining the bloc. After about 14 years of negotiations, the country has entered the final phase of the process, although significant reforms still need to be completed, particularly on issues such as the rule of law and alignment with European standards. So far, Montenegro has closed 14 out of the 35 required negotiation chapters. European institutions emphasize that this is a historic opportunity, but warn that progress will depend on the country’s ability to swiftly implement concrete reforms.
