News: Serbia: Culture Minister on trial over Trump hotel affair

5 February 2026

Serbian Culture Minister Nikola Selaković appeared in a Belgrade court in connection with a hotel project linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to prosecutors, the minister, along with other officials, allegedly falsified key documents to allow the construction of a luxury hotel on the site of the former Yugoslav Army General Staff headquarters. Plans to demolish the building had sparked widespread protests in Serbia, as the site—destroyed during the 1999 NATO bombings—is regarded as an unofficial memorial to the bombing victims.

Selaković has pleaded not guilty but waived his immunity, allowing the trial to proceed.
