News: Western Balkans: Truck drivers block Schengen borders to protest EU rules
Truck drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia have launched a protest against EU measures that limit the maximum stay in the Schengen area to ninety days within a six-month period. They are asking to be exempted from the rules that apply to tourists, arguing that they are effectively denied the right to work once they exceed the permitted number of days of stay in the EU.
The striking drivers claim that this regulation threatens the free movement of goods in Southeast Europe, potentially disrupting regional and European supply chains.
The protesters, who have already blocked around 20 border crossings and customs terminals along the borders with EU countries, have called a seven-day strike.
