SERBIA: The EU does not want to see the struggle for democracy in Serbia

Since November 2024, Serbia has been the stage of a massive wave of anti-government protests. While students show no sign of giving up their demands, the government has resorted to intimidation tactics, including arrests and salary cuts.
The EU’s response, however, is widely perceived as insufficient, while Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos is pursuing a “double form of diplomacy”: openly supporting the protesters while avoiding direct criticism of the government.
